Deir el-Medina Studies
Helsinki
24th–26th of June 2009

We are pleased to announce that the conference Deir el-Medina Studies will be held in Helsinki at Tieteiden talo (Kirkkokatu 6, see map) from the 24th to the 26th of June 2009. The conference is arranged jointly by the Finnish Egyptological Society and the Institute for Asian and African Studies, University of Helsinki.

Deir el-Medina research has for decades been one of the corner-stones of Egyptology, the source material from the village being of particular interest since it can offer us unique insights to a multitude of aspects of every day life in ancient Egypt. Scholars working with the material stemming from Deir el-Medina met in July 2004 in Basel, Switzerland. During this conference it was agreed upon that a similar meeting should be arranged regularly since the amount of scholars working with Deir el-Medina is increasing and new research and new results are being accomplished every year.

Please notice that even though the sessions are open for public, listeners are kindly asked to sign up for the conference (patricia.berg@helsinki.fi or 041-5488222) before the 12th of June.
